Once upon a time I would never have been so calculating. Either the place was excellent, comfortable or poor, but never did I give it such close inspection. The change has been due, of course, to the appearance of mega travel sites such as TripAdvisor and Booking.com on the internet, which not only offer us detailed reviews of accommodation, restaurants, tourist attractions, etc, but urge us, and then remind us repeatedly, to submit our own reviews. Of course, some people ignore these websites, but it is hard to. For one thing, some of them offer good deals, and for another, one has to admit the reviews are very helpful (although sometimes confusing).
I sometimes wonder, however, whether we wouldn't prefer to return to that era when instead of being distracted about rating our travel accommodation and experiences after we return, we actually concentrated on enjoying our vacation?
