OK, promotion. Post it on Facebook. I get some "likes" and friendly wishes. Send the site to friends and family. Some respond, warmly wishing me luck. Nice, but not very helpful. I want them to write, or to send stuff they've already written. I've also asked them to forward it on to others. Maybe some of them did, but they don't say. Others say, yes, they have some material but they're shy about publishing it. But that is what this site is all about - enabling shy people to have their material posted without fanfare, anonymously if they wish.
I'm a shy person, too. But in the end I find myself posting some stuff from my Asia blog (which is not really your usual blog because it's not about me but contains essays and book reviews), because I feel I need to fill out the site with content. And that wasn't the intention.
Despair, after only a few days. The statistics are not shooting up (and that's putting it mildly). Patience, people say. Give it time. Let the search engines pick it up. I want people to submit material, I groan; It's not interesting without material.
It's a vicious world out there in cyberspace. I feel like a small gasping fish in a sea of predators. How can I compete with them?
